Spring Into Making: 5 Fresh Projects to Kickstart Your Creative Season

Spring has a way of stirring the imagination. Maybe it’s the urge to refresh your living space, craft a meaningful gift, or finally tackle that project you’ve been sketching in your notebook all winter. Whatever your motivation, our makerspace has the tools, the space, and the community to help you bring it to life.

Why Spring Is the Perfect Time to Make Something New

Seasonal transitions have always inspired makers. Spring cleaning opens up room for new décor. Graduations, Mother’s Day, and warm-weather gatherings create natural deadlines for thoughtful, handmade gifts. And something about fresh air and blooming surroundings just makes creative problem-solving feel easier.

At Delmarva Makerspace, we’ve seen it every year — membership picks up, class signups surge, and the collaborative energy in our workspace reaches a whole new level come spring. This is the time to try something you’ve never done before, or revisit a craft you’ve been missing.

5 Spring Projects to Try at Delmarva Makerspace

Laser-Cut Planter Markers & Garden Signs

🔴 Laser Cutter

Spring gardens deserve personalized touches. Use our laser cutter to engrave custom herb labels, decorative plant stakes, or a beautiful welcome sign for your front porch. Wood, acrylic, and slate all work beautifully — and these make incredible gifts for the gardeners in your life. No experience needed; our intro laser sessions get you cutting your first design in under an hour.

3D-Printed Organizers for Your Spring Refresh

🟢 3D Printers

Spring cleaning inevitably reveals the clutter. Put your refresh to work with custom 3D-printed organizers — drawer dividers, seed packet holders, wall-mounted key hooks, or charging station trays. You design it to fit your exact space. Whether you’re designing from scratch in TinkerCAD or downloading a free file from Printables, our team can help you get it onto the print bed and into your home.

A Handmade Mother’s Day Gift (Before the Rush)

🟡 Multiple Tools

Mother’s Day arrives faster than anyone expects. This spring, skip the generic and make something she’ll keep forever. A laser-engraved recipe box, a vinyl-cut tote bag, a custom wooden picture frame, or a 3D-printed jewelry organizer — these are the kinds of gifts that tell a story. Stop in during any open studio session and our members and staff will help you brainstorm and execute the perfect design.

Outdoor Game Night: Build a Cornhole Set

🟤 Woodshop

Warm evenings are coming. Our woodshop is the perfect place to build your own cornhole boards — dimensioned, sanded, painted, and personalized with a laser-cut or vinyl design. It’s an incredibly satisfying project that combines basic woodworking skills with creative finishing, and it gives you bragging rights every time you play. This is a great group project, too — bring a friend or partner and make it a date.

Upcycle Something Old Into Something Beautiful

🔵 Mixed Media

Spring cleaning uncovers furniture, frames, and forgotten objects just waiting to be reimagined. Bring that beat-up dresser, old metal sign, or wooden pallet to the makerspace and transform it. Sand it down, add a vinyl design, engrave a pattern, paint it up, or combine materials in unexpected ways. Upcycling is one of the most sustainable and satisfying forms of making — and our open studio time is built for exactly this kind of creative exploration.
