Course Overview: This Laser Safety Training class with LightBurn is designed to educate makerspace members on safe and responsible usage of laser engraving and cutting machines. Participants will not only learn essential safety practices but will also gain hands-on experience using LightBurn software for designing and executing laser projects.

Course Objectives:

    • Explanation of safety features on laser machines and how to use them effectively.
  2. Workspace Setup and Safety Measures:
    • Proper setup of the laser workspace, including ventilation and fire safety measures.
    • Guidelines on personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe clothing choices.
  3. Introduction to LightBurn:
    • Brief overview of LightBurn software and its role in laser engraving and cutting.
    • Importance of following safety protocols within the software.
  4. Safe Operation of Laser Machines:
    • Step-by-step guidance on safely operating laser machines.
    • Demonstrations on loading and unloading materials, focusing the laser, and executing test runs.
  5. Designing with Safety in Mind:
    • Incorporating safety considerations into the design process.
    • Best practices for creating safe and effective laser projects.
  6. Emergency Procedures:
    • Training on responding to common emergencies, such as material fires or unexpected machine behavior.
    • Evacuation procedures and communication protocols.
  7. Advanced Safety Features in LightBurn:
    • Overview of safety features within LightBurn, such as power scaling and ramping.
    • Demonstrations on using advanced settings to enhance safety during laser operations.

  • Closed-toe shoes and appropriate clothing are required.

Note: This course is a prerequisite for accessing the laser engraving and cutting machines at the makerspace. It ensures that participants have the knowledge and skills needed to operate the equipment safely and responsibly. By the end of the course, participants will not only be certified in laser safety but will also be equipped with the skills to create their own laser projects using LightBurn.
